Allotment Gardens at AMK-Bishan Park

I noticed many new planters in the allotment garden at the park today. Apparently, they have been there a few months already..!

It was a pleasure viewing the wonderful produce that some of the gardeners are tending to.

So pretty… Dahlberg Daisy I think…
Some sort of melon-to-be…?
Tomatoes!
Not v sure… Bittergourd plant?
Huge lady’s finger!
Long beans?
Edamame?
Morning glory
Brinjal!
Chilli padi
Blue pea
Not sure what these are too… Golden berries?
Four-leaf clover!
These are brilliant!
With holes in top
How did the cactus get inside??

I met a lovely lady, Julie, tending to her plot and I learned that the concrete lots are pretty new, just built 6 months ago and you need to ballot for them at the NParks website:

Julie was so generous to offer me a bag of her dill. I couldn’t help but gasp when she just cropped off a big chunk and handed it to me. That’s a few months worth of tender-loving care! I initially declined as I’d never cooked dill before and didn’t know how to use it. But she told me to simply add it to fried eggs and give it a try… She insisted, so… thank you so much Julie!!:)

Big bunch of fresh dill!

It’s a nice community which I’d love to join someday if I ever manage to win a ballot! 🙂 Others I bumped into greeted, “Good morning” or gave a friendly nod, which is rare in many bustling parts of Singapore. Is it a common trait of gardeners, or do they somehow tend to be rather serene and patient? Julie was certainly patient to entertain my questions.

As they moved slowly and peacefully, camouflaged among their plants, the morning exercise group nearby donned bright blue t-shirts and pumped their limbs energetically in tune to loud music and instructions. The two groups looked quite contrasting side-by-side, but so marvellous to see different people doing what they enjoy in the same space.

Googled a scrambled eggs with dill recipe..

Scrambled eggs with dill

Okay I modified mine quite a bit cos I’ve never tasted dill before, so I added just a little!!

  • 1 tbsp Dill
  • 1 cube butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 slice of kraft cheese
  • salt
  • Pepper
Tadah!

Turns out it is really very delicious and fragrant. Even makes my scrambled eggs look suddenly more appetising!:)

So now I used only a wee bit.. I still had lots of dill leftover… and I definitely didn’t want to waste any, yet knew I couldn’t use it up fast enough before they start to wilt… I came across this awesome website which gave me so many ideas:

Growing Dill – Planting, Storing and Harvesting Dill Weed

I ended up freezing and propagating the rest! 🙂

Wee bit for cooking, plucked sprigs for freezing, cuttings for propagating…

And the cuttings also doubled-up as home decor!

Their feathery leaves are so pretty!

All thanks to Julie!:D
