Jungle Fowl at Ang Mo Kio Park

Since the Circuit Breaker, it seems the Jungle Fowl populations at Ang Mo Kio – Bishan Park have been soaring… Every few metres or so along the jogging path, I see at least one of them.

Look before you cross…!

I used to just call them ‘chickens’. But B insists that I call them by their right term, Jungle Fowl, cos they’re different from chickens. While chickens mostly have yellow legs, the Jungle Fowl has grey legs.

Overall, the Jungle fowl also look more lean to me. Another amazing fact I just found out is that EVERY VARIETY OF CHICKEN IN THE WORLD DESCENDED FROM THIS SINGLE ASIAN SPECIES! How cool is that? We actually have the mother of all chickens right here in Singapore! https://mothership.sg/2017/02/all-chickens-in-the-world-descended-from-red-junglefowl-species-native-to-spore/hn

The rooster has very pretty plumage

They love to forage at the foot of trees, tossing up the browned leaves with their family.

I tried to get a picture of a hen with chicks, but they’re too quick (and nervous)! Thanks to the Jungle Fowl, my jog around the park is made so much more colorful and interesting.:)
