Purple Heron

I saw a big bird at the Ang Mo Kio Park… It was quite a scare at first… to see something long and snake-like poking it’s way from among the grasses…

The Purple Heron

It was around 70-90cm… Upon Googling a bit, I learnt that there are some differences between herons and storks. One difference is that the heron has a more pointy, dagger-like bill. Storks have thicker bills that curve in/outwards near the tips, depending on species.

It was my first time seeing a Purple Heron! I dared not move and the bird stood stock still too. Which is why I only managed a few shots on my phone. We spent the bulk of the time staring at each other.

The ‘little black dots on the clouds’ are actually pond skaters skimming the water surface… The pictures look a bit surreal, like the bird could either be standing at the edge of a pond or the edge of a cliff…

Peaceful Morning

Like a Chinese Watercolor Painting, don’t you think?:)

Last shot…

…before it suddenly took off!
