Ru Yee You
Do you have a scent that brings you peaceful nostalgic memories? For me, one scent is medicated oil… especially Ru Yee You (As You Wish Oil)…
Applying the ointment makes me feel at ease, when I feel nauseous, or anxious or when I get headaches… this is not some advertisement btw… I really like the ointment:)
I’m not sure how to describe the smell.. minty but not really a peppermint sort of minty… more like sweet herbal, a bit fruity, even slightly tangy sort of minty…? Well, sniffing it is like having a soothing fragrant icy breeze full of happy memories fill your lungs..
Ru Yee Oil reminds me of childhood and my 1st month confinement days when I just had my babies… My mother-in-law used to tell me that I should rub this oil on my babies tummies to ‘get rid of wind’. And if they were too young with their umbilical cord still attached, I should rub it on the soles of their feet to give them good sleep.. So I did.. those tiny, tiny beautiful feet with the soft pink toes… Just recalling them makes me teary.
Newborn baby days were some of the most life-changing, unforgettable times of my life… so the smells, sights, sounds that are associated with those moments are especially ingrained and precious to me.. and Ru Yee You is one of the smells I heavily associate with my children’s newborn days. Even though my kids are much older now, I still use it and love it much more than any perfume.
It calms me and eases tension headaches and muscle aches… when the headaches are especially bad, I rub the medicated oil with water on my eyelids so it almost stings, but that eases the pain and makes me feel so so cool and floaty…:)
Best of all, a whiff of it reminds me of my kids. Sleepless but happy nights of nursing and diaper change. Those precious moments when they were literally small huggable bundles of joy.
Yeah, so that is why I usually keep a bottle of it close, wherever I am. Oh and recently discovered another awesome use for it… it repels pests like cockroaches(without the bad-smelling toxic fumes of insecticide).. All the more reason to keep a few bottles close…!;)
